Damn it, I had to find out what happened on House and now I’m completely spoiled. When will I learn that spoiler whores never prosper?
As I’m in serious essay research mode at the moment, my brain is in perfect condition to come up with strange theories involving the Harry Potter books so I can write them up on my LJ to avoid doing work. Forgive me if this has already been discussed two million times already.
So does anyone else think that Hogwarts itself is going to show of some brilliant magical powers and kick Death Eater butt in book seven? I’m very confident that any final battle will occur on Hogwarts grounds, since the school is the catalyst of Harry’s story beginning and the basic constant of the series. Not to mention that one could argue that the origins of the war date back to an argument between Gryffindor and Slytherin (I approach origins of the war as a underlying ethnic conflict that has been lingering since the days of the founders that has been hijacked and exploited by Voldemort. We see this kind of conflict occur time and time again in the real world).
Now, where there is a castle, there is a siege. This is especially a possibility considering that the combination of Death Eaters, Giants, Werewolves and Dementors and other dark creatures probably out number the Order and Ministry by a lot. Which means that if the forces of good, in order to stand a chance, need something to level the playing field. Could this be Hogwarts itself?
People in the books are always discussing the protections on Hogwarts, but besides the apparation barrier we are yet to see these. However, look at the motto of Hogwarts: Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus or never tickle a sleeping dragon. If we take the approach that Hogwarts is that dragon maybe all that is needed is a little more of a push, like attacking the whole of the student populace, and all hell will reign down on those that committed the act by the walls of the building and the magic contained within. Of course, the death of Dumbledore did not awaken the school, but then again the act was committed by a teacher and a head of house, so the murder could be construed as members of the school fighting against each other, not an outside attack against the school and the students within.
But what will result in the awakening? My guess is the death of an innocent or the spilt blood of a student. I think the best candidate for this role would, sadly enough, be Luna since she has a neutral and slightly innocent countenance and being a Ravenclaw represents the seeking of knowledge, the purpose of a school, better then any of the other major student characters.
However, while this is happening, Harry and Voldemort will have to have their battle and what is to stop the school from smiting Voldemort. Well, Voldemort being the heir of Slytherin is thus linked to the school as part of it and Harry acting as the champion of Gryffindor is as well. The school will leave the two alone to fight to the death.
I think it could work. What to you lot think?
