I got my hands on the book I’ve been lusting after at the library for the past few days, The Command of the Ocean: A Naval History of Britain 1649-1815 by N. A. M. Rodgers. Should keep my good for the next few weeks. Expect me geeking out a bit over the next few weeks/days. I love to tell people about interesting facts I've learnt about, which apparently makes me completely unbearable to be around at times.

In good news, I’ve got my muse back. Totally been missing the past week and a bit. Oddly enough though, it’s for Norrington/Elizabeth fic. Odd since I like Norrington/Tia Dalma so much more. Come on, if those two actually had a scene together it would be so hot.

Meanwhile, is it just me, or is photobucket on the fritz? I’m having real issues seeing images at the moment.

I demand some Norrington/Tia Dalma because you would do an excellent job (and some Norrington/Elizabeth as well because that is so much fun)

I love the fact that, like, five HP people on my f-list - all people I met through Remus/Tonks-related ficcage - have gone over to Pirates of the Caribbean. And all love Norrington. We all rock at life :)

The Norrington/Tia Dalma fic I've been working on is chaptered, so it might be ages away. But I'm definatly going to try and get some stuff out there. The ship is underrepresented. I'm very glad I'm not the only one on my flist that's gone a bit nuts over Norrington. I'd be rather lonely by myself. Norrington and R/T must have something in common. I haven't got a clue what though.

Pre-comment comment: So, what the shit. Either I've got horrible reading skills, or lj is playing tricks on me, because I've missed quite a good deal of everyone's entries and had to go back through the pages and I swear they weren't there the first time I looked. "No more drinking in the afternoon" would be the reasonable statement here, except it's completely non-applicable. Whatever. I'm just going to sit here eating stale Froot Loops and try not to tax my brain too much.

Right, anyway. I've been trying to figure out a connection between the two as well. Perhaps that both Remus and Norrington are somewhat lamentable characters who have, at times, both been treated unfairly, and we're drawn to that. Doesn't hurt that they're both extremely clever and rather sexy in an "imaginary character" sort of way. Note to self: I have no life. But it's not a totally crap theory, at least.

And I'd love to read Norrington/Elizabeth or Norrington/Tia Dalma from you.

I had an bit of an idea earlier today that maybe Norrington has the characteristics with both Remus and Tonks, which is why we like him. Like Remus he is an older English gentleman who is rather scruffy and has seen better days. But like Tonks he willingly kicks bad-guy arse for a living and gets dumped in horrible circumstances.

Then again I find Norrington really, really hot and Remus not as much (I know, blasphemy, but it's true) and post-hurricane Norrington looks out for himself in a way I could not see either Remus or Tonks doing.

Ha ha. I don't find it blasphemous. I used to like Remus rather a lot, and then I turned my version of him into a bastard whenever I wrote him, so these days I mainly have urges to write fic in which he gets hit with steel poles. Actually, my fic for [livejournal.com profile] remus_reads is based on the prompt: "Remus gets tortured" which, I thought, was fitting. Sigh. I used to find him sexy, though, in his own, weird little stiff-collared way.

Maybe I shouldn't write Norrington!fic. I have a tendency to turn even the kindest of men into cold, repressed English assholes. And I like Norrington, because he's new and incredibly, incredibly hot shiny, and I almost want to write happy endings for him. My own version of blasphemy.

Lord, why am I so mean to characters? I want to write children's literature for chrissake.

Meh. I thought possibly I should clarify a bit. I like everyone else's versions of Remus (well, except the insane ones where he cries like a girl and eats an entire bar of chocolate in one go.) I just don't like my version of Remus. He annoys me. I think after these next two fics I'll not write him for a while.

Thing is, Remus is kind of a bastard in canon. While he probably thought that breaking up with Tonks was self-sacrificing and nobel, in the great scheme of things was really selfish. He ditched her when she probably needed him the most and completely ignored her feelings. And he always distances himself from Harry, who desperately needs a decent father figure (and Sirius was certainly not up to the job and I think Remus knew that). Not to mention the forgot to drink his wolfsbane thing.

I do quite like Remus anyway. But if I were Tonks I'd be hitting on Percy Weasley instead (I am like so the worst R/T shipper ever).

I think you should write Norrington!fic. I'd love to see what you do with him.

Excellent points, and a good reminder that Remus does some truly stupid things in canon. I feel a bit more justified in having this pent-up animosity toward him that sometimes makes it way to the surface.

And Norrington!fic will be written. It's just a matter of getting past the roadblocks (e.g. learning about the British Navy, figuring out Elizabeth's character, and trying to write period language).

I'm pretty sure I'll end up being the only girl I know in RL who can give a run down of how to sail a warship. Oh well.

I don't think I'll get any plot ideas out of it, but it would make writing so much easier if I'm not having to stop every five minutes to look up a historical detail.
