I never linked to this in my journal when I wrote it over a month ago and thought I should. More of an experiment than anything else.

Night Shift
Since I’m now done with my writing course, writing is back to being something I shouldn’t be doing so expect more from me than I’ve been producing over the past few months, hopefully.
Meanwhile, picking up with my Classic Doctor Who watching, I managed to catch The Sontaran Experiment. My flatmate and I spent the entire serial rooting for Harry Sullivan. Don’t quite know why, but we both adore him. Anyway, I really liked it. Loved the Sontaran and hope they are going to make an appearance in the new series at some point.
Though watching Doctor Who with my flatmate can be a very frustrating business. One of my pet peeves in fandom (and life in general) is when excruciating standards are placed on female characters. If a woman shows any sign of weakness or does the slightest thing ‘wrong’ then she is hated (as opposed to male characters who can do some really lousy thinks and still be widely adored) and my flatmate is the worst person for this. She cannot stand it when a female character screams, even when facing a nearly certain horrific death. This is made even worse because she herself screams All The Time (she screamed so loudly and suddenly that I spilled the drink I was holding when we watching Girl in a Fireplace.) So Rose and Sarah Jane get complained at a lot. I’m normally all for Rose criticism when it’s justified (though in this case it’s really not). But how dare she hassle the object of my current girl crush.
In frustration I’ve rented some Leela episodes since I read somewhere that Leela screams only once in her tenure as a companion. What I should have done is rented an episode with one of the more notorious for screaming companions and made her appreciate Sarah Jane and Rose that much more.
