I never thought I would write Pockets, never mind give it a sequel. Seems my muse has other ideas. Blame a comment
reserve made.

Author: meddow
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Word Count: ~300
Characters: The Doctor (Tenth), Donna
Summary: The Doctor takes an interest in Donna’s pet goldfish
Author’s Notes: A companion fic to Pockets.
---
Donna had a goldfish. He wasn’t actually sure about from where she had acquired it, but there it floated, in a bowl on a shelf in the TARDIS’ third kitchen.
The Doctor has always though of goldfish as rather vacant creatures. But then, with a memory of three seconds, what was the point of taking an interest? He knew words that took him longer than three seconds to say. Certainly they would not be good creatures to converse with, if he could.
Though Donna seemed to like it. He supposed she had given it a name. If he were Donna, he’d call it Garry.
Garry the Goldfish.
Goldfish Garry.
Life is never made any worse by a bit of alliteration, he told Garry.
Though he didn’t actually know whether Donna had given it a name. She didn’t talk to poor Garry. She certainly didn’t enter into staring contests with him (goldfish – it turned out – were particularly good at staring contests). Admittedly she was the only one who remembered to feed him, but she never mentioned his presence to the Doctor.
This turned out to be why the Doctor came to know about Garry in the first place. It was a mystery to be solved: just what brought about in Donna those little smiles he caught and that were so quickly stifled? While the affection of Donna Noble was easily gained, it was so rarely expressed that the Doctor wondered whether Garry knew just how much she cared.
Of course he wouldn’t. Never mind Donna’s concealed devotion, Garry would have forgotten about the woman that cared for him three seconds after she walked away. It was the tragedy of keeping a pet goldfish, the Doctor supposed. So every now and again, when Donna was out of the room, the Doctor took time to remind him.
