My entire flat, myself included, loved it (or at least seemed too)

OMG! Unexpected Rose!

And with an appearance like that, I’m starting to think the return of Rose might actually be done without me throwing things.

The Doctor and Donna missing each other dragged thing after a while, but it was worth is for the pay-off. The silent window meeting scene has to be one of the (if not the) funniest scenes in New Who. Everyone watching with me was in stitches.

Yes, there were fat jokes. *Sigh* (I can't bring myself to get angry with RTD anymore, it's jut exhausting to do so. Disappointment is so much easier). But I suppose it was some commentary on society’s obsession with get slim quick schemes and people’s wiliness to exploit people’s low self-esteem for profit. And anything that pokes fun at super-nanny is fine by me.

The Adipose were so cute! I want one. Nice to see an innocent alien getting caught up in a scheme and not getting slaughtered, or slaughtering anyone. I do love it when the run with a different angle on the alien invasion (like they did with the Judoon last year).

Sarah Lancashire was brilliant. I felt really sorry for her at the end – that faith that she as the nanny, as the person who raised all those children was needed. And then she was just disposed of suddenly, without a thought.

Donna! Still the same old compassionate, devious and determined Donna we were introduced to in The Runaway Bride. And still just a bit shouty. I love shouty Donna. I think anything that’s not shouting in certain situations (such as an alien abduction while walking down the aisle, or dangling from a rope above the ground) just doesn’t ring true. Anyway, any tweaks to her character didn’t harm her in any way. I still adore her to bits.

Donna went to Egypt. I’m so happy she got to go somewhere. And it did fit sort of with the ending of The Runaway Bride, in that she did go walk in the dust, just to find that walking in the dust is considerably more difficult than she imagined (which is reality. I don’t think I know of a single person who would not love to travel like the Doctor does, but it’s nearly impossible to just wander like that).

Anyway, it’s just great to catch up with a character a year or so after a run in with the Doctor, if only just to see what they’ve been up to since their lives got turned upside down. Donna’s apparently become full time alien investigator/Doctor stalker – which unfortunately does not pay.

Catherine Tate was just wonderful. She really can bring the side-splitting funny, but oh, that wonderful scene with her and her grandfather, and then later her waiting in the TARDIS door, heartbroken at the thought the Doctor doesn’t want to travel with her – she’s amazing.

They really are emphasising the similarities between Donna and the Doctor. Miss Foster even at one point lumped Donna in with the Doctor and assumed she was an alien, and was never corrected. Am I safe in assuming the Donna is the arc of the season? DT seemed to say as much in one of the interviews he’s given in the past week. But then there’s enigmatic Rose. Oh, season four’s mystery arc is looking good.

Wilf’s great. I vote for more Wilf. I loved him in Voyage of the Damned and I loved him in this.

Oh, and the Doctor. Talking to himself in the TARDIS. He’s just so broken. I was watching New Earth a couple of days ago, and the Doctor then and the Doctor now, it’s just amazing the difference. He does seem so much older. David Tennant just gets better and better.

And the Doctor’s merciful now. Season two Ten would probably not have tried to save Miss Foster. Not to mention, season three Ten wouldn’t have admitted how badly he treated Martha. OMG, could it be? Character development of the Doctor?! Ten maturing? Halle-freaking-lujah!

So next week: prophecies in Pompeii on volcano day. And alas, Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus are nowhere to be seen.

I love that Donna had her luggage packed and ready to go. That's my girl.

Also, Rose is all ominous. Huh.

The Doctor standing there with all the bags, that was one of my favourite moments.

And ominous Rose was really quite awesome, so much more intriguing than a catch word.

Not to mention, season three Ten wouldn’t have admitted how badly he treated Martha.

I was so pleased with this. It signalled PROGRESSION. I mean, I love Ten all the time, but this was needed and I'm glad they did it first up.

Unexpected Rose! OMG. I tried to put together any coherent thoughts in my journal, but the squee took over. There were little things I loved and tiny minor things that irked me but on the whole, I AM JUST SO HAPPY TO HAVE MY FAVOURITE SHOW BACK.

Yes. This episode really ticked off the two things that needed to be ticked off after season three: establish Donna is not and will not be in love with the Doctor, and have the Doctor realise the amount of crap Martha went through because of him (which shall hopefully lead to one wonderful apology when Martha next shows up).

AND IT IS BACK! AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

I think RTD must troll fanboards and mark down what we hate and remedy it at the start of the season, LOL. Lots of fanservice. I think it balanced it all out without being too drippy or "forgive us for what we did to the character last series".

Yea, Martha and the Doctor need some serious face time.

I liked it too. Too many fandom postings get their hate on and make me wonder "why do you watch the damn show then?"

I know - it some days it feels like the message is that you can't be a proper fan unless you hate it. Professional entertainment critics have been less critical of this episode than fandom.

"I’m starting to think the return of Rose might actually be done without me throwing things."

I know! I almost felt tender toward her.

Donna looking really, innocently crushed when she thought the Doctor didn't want her.

Ten's self-awareness about Martha, his own mistakes, his life and his condition in general, etc. I LOVED IT. I wasn't so much worried that it'd never come, but I still really loved seeing it. <3

(Can I friend you, if that's okay? You just say quite a lot of awesome things.)

Friend away :D

I was really shocked by how much I adored Rose standing there. It was just so quickly and suitably done. It gives me hope.

Oh, I adored that innocently crushed look from Donna. I love how under that large personality, she's just a little bit vulnerable (well, she did pin all her hopes and dreams on him taking her with him). Very like the Doctor in his current state.

I love the Martha awareness too. I think we need now is four more episodes of Ten angsting over Martha, plus a big apology scene, complete with Martha getting a really large hug and being told she's absolutely amazing, and season three shall be forgiven.

Thanks! =D

I trust there will be some lovely Ten/Martha in the Sontaran two-parter, as well as the subsequent episode, as he'll be facing something huge and she'll be there. I find I don't need a lot more overt lines about his guilt when she's not there, because the ones last night were just so well done. But at the same time, some implications of something plaguing him leading up to him seeing just how well she's doing would be cool. But I don't, however much it needs fixing and I love her, want it to take over.
