With all the names being chucked out for Eleven, I'm surprised I haven't seen Stephen Mangan put out there. He's got fantastic comic timing (and is particularly brilliant at improv apparently), a good enough actor to have me rooting for Guy to get the girl in Green Wing despite Guy being a complete wanker, and he's a bit funny looking but still oddly attractive. I think he'd make an excellent Doctor.

So I had a thought, does David Tennant leaving at the end of the specials mean we're never going to have a chance of seeing the Tenth Doctor on SJA (if SJA gets a third series)? Cos I really want Ten and Luke in a room together being adorakable and if that never happens, it shall be a tragedy. Plus, I'd love to see the frosty reaction to the Doctor from all the supporting adult characters on that show, since Rani's parents know Sarah's heart got broken badly and Clyde's mum thinks Luke's dad ran out on Sarah, and, well, it'd be hard not to think Ten is Luke's father.

And also, with Steven Moffat taking over the reigns and since SJA is a RTD thing, does that mean the chances of one of the SJA kids becoming a companion are less? This would be unfortunate since Clyde would make an excellent companion. As would Rani, Luke and Maria, but I really want Clyde most of all. He's a practical, funny, pop-culture referencing wanna-be Banksy with considerable world saving experience, I'd love to see him aboard the TARDIS.

You know, if they do sever the spin-off's, I really hope Big Finish gets the licence to use the characters, and sooner rather than later. It seem such a shame to have all these wonderful characters and for them just to have them disappear.

I'm totally behind you on Stephen Mangan. That would be great news! There are quite a few names being chucked around at the moment (bookies have David Morrissey with leading odds here at the moment), but it is so hard to think in terms of an Eleven quite yet, even though I am excited about the prospect, and yet worried at the same time. I remember when Russell Tovey's name got chucked around, and I was a bit worried. I love Russell Tovey to pieces and think he is such a great actor, but I just am not sure with him as a Doctor...

So Stephen Mangan would whole heartedly get my support. I adored Guy from Green Wing. I totally shipped him and Caroline to the point where I pretend that the special doesn't exist in canon.

I like the idea of Russell Tovey, actually. I think it would be great having a Doctor that struggles to be recognized and listened to because people discount his intelligence because of his youth. Although, that could wear thin after a series.

And I really wish the special hadn't rained on Guy/Caroline. They were my Green Wing ship as well.

I'm not against Russell Tovey, but his youth was probably my main concern. Not to say there can't be a young Doctor, but it it a slightly untried formula, which as you say, could wear a bit thin. That said, I would still be okay if they cast him, but there are probably a few people I'd like to see before him (including Morrissey, and Mangan).

Should I admit that I still kind of ship Guy/Joanna?

SJA already got it's third season, I believe (news a long time ago about s2 and being filmed back to back), and, though it's speculation based on a highly familiar back-of-the-head and RTD's denial (we all know what those tend to mean), it looks like Ten is in one of the stories. I so badly want Ten&Luke interaction. And the adults being all frosty at him based on misunderstandings would be AMAZING.

I gotta say, my top choice would be Luke as a companion because I love him so very deeply and he's so weird and there's that connection, but Clyde would also rock. It'd be a very energetic dynamic, that. XD

Actually they didn't film S2 and S3 back to back - it's still not certain there'll be a S3 of SJA as yet.

And no, Ten's NOT in SJA S2 - unless Lis is lying, because she said so in a recent interview.

I definitely want Clyde on the TARDIS once he's 18.

I've no idea as I've not seen whichever head you're referring to...

It was a cap taken from the trailer (one of the trailers?) of series 2. On one side, next to one of the main characters (think it was Sarah, can't quite remember now), was the back/side of the head of someone who looked distinctly David-esque, what with the hair and the sideburns and all.

Oh, not seen it. I just know that Lis said in a recent DWM interview that the Doctor wasn't in SJA S2...

I think the head in the back of the head shot belonged to poor man's Alan Rickman (the scientist) in the opening two episodes.

All true, but I'd say the odds are very good of a Season 3 of SJA, and if it's filmed like the other two seasons, it'll air during the fall of 2009, before Ten's run is over, so there's still hope for Ten to meet Luke. :)

Oh I'm not disputing that - just explaining that S3 hasn't even been commissioned, let alone written or filmed. I suspected the idea of them doing S2 and S3 of SJA back to back came about because the second season's that bit longer than the first one was...

Tennant's going to be on contract from Jan 09 until at least late March, I should think, so time to get some filming of him done - or else they can call him back (I can't imagine he'd turn down the chance to do a cameo in SJA, fanboy that he is)...

I really hope we get a third series. Everything's seems so very up in the air and the shortened Torchwood season has be just a bit more worried about a third season than I was about the second.

Given the overwhelming popularity of SJA, the BBC would have to catch a massive case of Stupid, or there would have to be some dramatic IRL tragedy (please stay healthy and happy, Lis!) to prevent a third season.

I agree. While I believe RTD would probably have no qualms about misleading the fans, I don't believe Lis would lie outright, so chances are we're not going to see Ten this series.

Yeah, Clyde should probably have his 18th birthday first since I'd imagine it'd be an over Sarah's dead body situations if he's still in school.

With Luke I never want him to leave SJA, because the world outside of SJA is a bit more cynical and I don't want him to lose that doe-eyed innocence of his. However, The teacher-pupil dynamic would be really strong with the Doctor and Luke, particularly since Luke really is a very young and incredibly innocent version of the Doctor. Plus, having Sarah completely freak out since she knows exactly the type of danger the Doctor's getting him into would be hilarious.

You know what would be fantastic? Luke and Jenny as companions together. Particularly since I totally ship those two.

I so deeply want Luke & Jenny companions together. Possibly with Sarah along. One great big crack family. And both of them are so funny and strange in their own ways and...yes.

Actually, if David Tennant leaves at the end of the specials, that still means that he could have a guest appearance in Season 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures, which would air, like this season, in the fall of that year.

And yes, I so want to see all the social awkwardness and energy that you describe. I still wish that Alan Jackson had been able to meet Ten, so that the two of them could have a subtle but obvious RAWR SARAH JANE IS MY WOMAN NOT YOURS thing going on with each other, to which Sarah Jane would respond with OMG U SEXIST BOIS I AM MY OWN WOMAN, and the boys would scuff their shoes and be all CAN WE STILL BE YOUR BOYFRIENDS THOUGH?

Alan and the Doctor having some kind of size up over Sarah would have been so much win. Although, I would think Alan would be sizing up and the Doctor failing to notice poor Alan's existence.

With Luke in Sarah Jane's life, Ten might think Alan was Luke's dad, and that Sarah Jane had acquired her new family by hooking up with Alan.

Of course, Ten would assume that Sarah Jane can already see that Alan is attracted to her (which he TOTALLY is, in CANON), and he would inadvertently reveal Alan's attraction to Sarah Jane as a result, and Alan and Sarah Jane would both get all blushy and flustered.
