Re Those Set Reports
Apr. 11th, 2009 04:33 pmWeighing in on those Doctor Who spoilers emerging about Ten's last adventure…
So far we've got Wilf (the official companion) Simm!Master (in all likelihood the major villain), Donna (in a wedding dress), Sylvia, Sarah Jane and Luke (those last two probably making only cameo appearances). I want to be giddy with excitement, rather I'm just worried that RTD will make Donna's ending even worse than it already is. I'm thinking about Rose here. I so wanted her to have moved on with her life and being awesome sans the Doctor, but then she hadn't moved on and as a result I think it would have been better if she hadn't reappeared after Doomsday.
It's worse because Donna's in a wedding dress and now I'm terrified that she'll give up having her memories back for love or something else linked to a romance that will make me want to smash my head in against the TV (yes, I have absolutely zero faith in RTD's ability to write a romance I like on this show at this point)
So I'm guessing the storyline's going to involve the Master having sought out Donna since, unbeknownst to her, her brain's probably one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. I'm in favour of Ten's death being linked to Donna getting her memories back. If he can poor his excess regeneration energy into his hand, surely he can give a bit to Donna to make her brain a bit more stable or something. What I want for Donna is that she gets to go and have her own adventures. I don't need to see them (although, my dream spin-off would be Donna gallivanting around the universe, seeing the sights she wants to see and enjoying her new found genius, with Mickey in tow as her companion). I just would like to think she's out there having a good life and being awesome.
Finally, I hope Sarah's cameo is an opening for her to appear in Matt Smith's first episode as the Doctor. There was a rumour floating around about that a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought an old companion back for an episode or two during the Doctor turn around just to keep some of the old in with the new in order to make sure audience stays over the transition. Sarah's a bit special in that she's the only character associated with both the classic series and RTD's era, so if the Doctor forgets who he is again, who better to remind him? Plus, those inevitable jokes about Eleven's age can come out right away.

Date: 2009-04-11 11:54 pm (UTC)I really need something to happen about Donna's situation, no matter how overwrought or ridiculous. I really don't like that Donna's wandering about clueless about having a brain that could kill her any moment should she expose herself to the wrong thing and remember. It's a horrible situation for her to be in, as well as for Wilf and Sylvia who would be constantly worrying about it.
