This is BEAUTIFUL. I've only seen the first series of this show so far, but this is just so clear, narratively but also emotionally. The character working out what she wants, duty she's chosen vs. new things she wants that maybe she hadn't considered before, was really powerful. I don't know this character but I just "Ohhhhh wow!" at the beginning of the second verse, when the story you were telling clicked. The handholding parallels at the end were so great! Such beautiful work.

I just saw this vid and it's so beautiful. I have a lot of associations with this song but you completely broke through them and I was with Sheila the whole way. Super great.

I just finished S2 (plus the Christmas special) of this show and a friend advised me to run and watch this vid immediately, and it's such a perfect expression of all the emotions I'm feeling right now! This is so good, I was holding my breath for most of the second half! Definitely one I'll watch over and over.

This got passed around Tumblr a bit yesterday, and I reblogged there, but I had to comment again because I just can't stop rewatching it, and I love this so very, very much!!!!!!! Perhaps because I only started watching the show in the past year, and there's been so much more of Shelagh Turner than there was of Sister Bernadette, or perhaps because of fandom's ship goggles, or perhaps because I think the show itself doesn't do enough to really try to understand what a religious calling is really about--for all these reasons and probably more, I've never felt like I've found the thing that really captures the scale of Shelagh's decision to leave the order. But this does it!!! The way you frame it in terms of all she's giving up is perfect: the joy and reverence and work of her calling. But then also of course we see what she wants instead, which is also compelling. But it's a hard decision, which I think a lot of the fic and commentary I've read has framed mostly in terms of "I made a vow ten years ago, and now, shit, I'm stuck with it" rather than as a difficult choice between a life she wanted and still values and loves, and another life she now wants more. Thank you for showing that! And I love love love love that the final image is the reconciliation with Sister Julienne, not the wedding. Every narrative trope out there wants to end with the wedding, but that's not the point here.

Overall, too, I love the song choice, the clip choice, the sections of cutting back and forth between clips on the heartbeat interludes. The whole thing has absolutely made my week to have discovered this!
