The Shakespeare Code

Never been a big fan of the celebrity historicals. Didn't like the Unquiet Dead, didn't particularly like Tooth and Claw and was a bit meh for this one. Maybe it's because while I can suspend my imagination for the science, I can't really get into an actor being Dickens/Queen Vic/Shakespeare. It's just an actor playing the part and really brings me out of the moment.
Loved, loved the Harry Potter references. I know there's been a lot of hate for the Expelliarmus, but I liked it. After all, they're banishing witches, what other word is going to pop into a person's head in that situation? Of course I ask this question as a person who writes Harry Potter fanfic (And I now totally have this image of Martha as a closet Harry Potter fanfic writer).
The Martha love expands, what with asking about the killing one's own Grandfather's butterfly thing. Though if I were her I would have snogged Shakespeare, just so I could say I had snogged Shakespeare. And he had got a point, Martha's probably going to get far more interest from Shakespeare than she would with the Doctor.
Speaking of Shakespeare, I found that whole "Shakespeare is a genius" stuff to be really wanky on the part of the episode writer's part. Shakespeare came up with the perfect words that saved the say, but it wasn't Shakespeare that came up with those words, it was Gareth Robert's writing Shakespeare's prefect words – hence slightly wanky and again that thought dragged me right out of the moment.
Are we going to get a Rose reference in every episode, cause I'd rather we move on (or that pervious companions get a mention too. Martha's always going on about nearly being a Doctor, so can we please get one Dr. Harry Sullivan mention. Harry Sullivan is love.)
Other than all that, was just a bit meh. Not bad and it had it's moments, but I'm not particularly rushing to re-watch it.
