The Lazarus Experiment
May. 6th, 2007 08:22 pmDamn you Eurovision! *shakes fist* There’s only two things the world’s really gotten out of it, ABBA and that episode of Father Ted where he and Dougal sing about the horse and I doubt we’re going to get anything out of it this year. I’m just annoyed because with everything shifted back a week, I’m going to be on holiday for the last episode. Bugger.
Anyway,
Well, I’d been looking forward to this episode and I wasn’t disappointed. I do love a good old fashioned monster chase complete with corridors.
Oh Mavis. Last time I saw you on Coro street I’m sure you weren’t evil. What on earth happened?
Mark Gatiss was really good, particularly in the cathedral scene. I loved that Lazerous was a skody old man.
And we had the season’s first interesting monster. So far this season we’ve had vampires, rhino-men, pig-men and gigantic crabs - either they’ve been done before or just haven’t been particularly other-worldly. While Lazarus did look slightly scorpion inspired, he was pretty different.
Empty Child/Doctor Dances references for the win!
Martha really picked up in this episode. While her little speech at the end about not wanting to be a passenger wasn’t quite the kick in the balls I think the Doctor deserved, it was great she asserted herself.
I think my new Who OTP is Martha/Sonic Screwdriver. Those two have gotten really close in the past two episodes.
Her mother’s storyline seems pretty interesting, though it seemed to be the mother doing the apparently required anvillious shipping in this episode and the character suffered for it. Actually ever character that seems to talk about the Martha-Doctor non-relationship whatever seems to suffer during the episode, particularly Martha. Leave it be writers, leave it be.
I’d say it would be interesting to have a companion choose between her family and the Doctor, but we’ve already been there before in Doomsday, so it’ll just be interesting to see how Martha reacts if her mother ends up in cahoots with Saxon.
Speaking of Saxon, he has a finally has first name – Harold.
It is interesting that the theme of the season happens to be what it is to be human. Hmm. I have a theory surround that and Mr. Saxon, but it’s rather long so I’ll post it another time.
And finally we get an episode without a mention of Rose. I think her memory has been well and truly flogged to death and I for one am glad he’s over her.
As for the trailer, nothing much to say other than – pretty.
That and I though that Saxon’s hand tapping might mean something since I’d seen something involving hand tapping not so long ago. It was in Prison Break and it was Morse code, so I had a look and its four sharp dashes repeated which is an ‘H’. Harold? Human? Humanity?
