Joy!

Two weeks before AWE! I want to be more involved fandom wise in the run up but find myself way too busy at the moment, which is unfortunate. But come July hopefully I’ll have the time to actually act on the millions of plot bunnies I have right now.

Though it’s never going to be as good as DMC. DMC had me wanting to leap out of my seat and run around the theatre in joy. There I was thinking that Norrington, my favourite character for the first movie wasn’t going to be in it because he wasn’t in the trailer, and somewhat disappointed about it, only to have in the first five minutes have Becket deliver and arrest warrant and Governor Swann say “Commodore Norrington resigned his commission some months ago,” which to my mind meant “Norrington’s going to show up Tortuga as an angry pirate” (well you don’t just leave random bits of info like that in a movie, if he wasn’t going to show up at all there would have been no arrest warrant and any mention would have either the words ‘transferred’ or ‘promoted’ in there). And low and behold, Norrington shows up an hour in an angry, drunken, dirty and incredibly hot pirate and proceeds to be snarky, angsty and crafty and get himself in the middle of the greatest sword-fighting scene ever! XD

Good times.

See, poor AWE is doomed from the beginning. I’d be very hard to beat that level of pure fangirl ecstasy. They’d need lots more great sword-fighting action and something like Elizabeth deciding choosing Norrington over Will and Jack to beat it (highly unlikely, but if the writers are looking for a truly original ending to the trilogy, that would be the way to go about it). And since the Norrington fans have been left rather out in the cold promotion wise (I keep saying to myself that the Norrington scenes are all CGI heavy and thus not ready yet for stills and the trailer but I don’t really believe it) and because I’ve read the 50 page leaked script, I’ve got this awful feeling I’m going to be really disappointed.

So I’ll I think I’ll just continue repeating to myself my little fangirl mantra: There is always fanfic!

Oh, oh, I KNOW! I am absolutely excited to know what they are going to do with Norrington, but terrified at the same time after reading the spoiler script. I keep swinging from being philosophical to gutted, from convincing myself that he will have such an awesome part and they are just keeping it under wraps like DMC, to thinking maybe his part is minimal and they are totally going to sell out the BEST CHARACTER.

Help!

You know, I'm sure I was the only person thinking that perhaps Elizabeth was going to end up with Norrington, simply because it would satisfy all ends. Will ends up on the Dutchman, but we know that he is Elizabeth's first choice. She marries Norrington on land, and that way she is respectable (especially if they, heaven forid, make her have a child), Norrington is happy because he gets Elizabeth which is pretty much all he ever wanted, even though it is a marriage of convienence (which in fanfic land means she will love him eventually), and Jack sails off into the sunset with hopefully a proper resolution of the J/E plotline. I think that would be awesome ending for everyone.... but only going to happen in my own brain, I think!

I keep swinging as well. I can’t wait for May 23 just so I can be put out of my misery by having it one way or the other. It’s the not knowing that’s doing me in. (Two more weeks of this - Gah!)

I’d be very happy with that ending. I’d also be happy if they go the other way and have her marry Will (and become the Governess of Tortuga – that way she gets to be a pirate, continue to be an early feminist and follow in her father’s footsteps) and have Norrington as the captain of the Dutchman (though remain gorgeous) and spend his time cruising the Caribbean and antagonising Jack for kicks, and Jack sail off into the sunset (but really how else could they leave Jack? - that ending just seems to go with who Jack as a character is).

In all honesty, any ending at all would suit me, as long as they don't kill Norrington. Other than that, I think I can live with everything else.

At the end of the day, me too.

SPOILERY

I don't know -- I maintain that he *can* die, but it has to be a good death. The first leak -- the one Disney now denies vehemently -- was NOT a good death.

Personally I'd love to see him gut Beckett and then, as Beckett lies bleeding to death on the floor, have Norrington throw the wig and the hat at him and renounce the Admirality with something along the lines of, "If it's men like you I'd be bound to serve, I'd rather be a pirate."

And then sail off into his own sunset, finally a truly free man.

That would work for me too. He's allowed to die, so long at it's a tragic yet cool heroic death a long way into the movie, and he's allowed to quit the Navy only after he's come to the conclusion he's too good for them.

Your ending is exactly what I'm hoping for as well! ^_^

I'm excited for AWE because if bad stuff happens, I can just write it away! God bless fanfic!

I found myself paging through the junior novelization in the bookstore and... I had to stop because I want to know but I don't.

Too lazy to log in as tweedledani

I've been doing something similar, I've been clicking on spoilers then clicking back. Thank goodness I haven't been in a book store in ages.
