Please, Please Uncle Rusty
Jan. 22nd, 2008 09:35 pmI generally don’t give much attention to Doctor Who tabloid casting and plot rumours, but please please please can this one be true. Pleeeeeaaaaase.
I don’t care how they do it, but Sarah and Jack have to meet. There are two things my Who loving flatmate and I agree on an those are:
1. Harry Sullivan is adorable
And
2. That Sarah Jane Smith and Jack Harkness have to meet, and preferably bicker and flirt.
(We disagree on everything else. If you ever want to be disturbed with cried of “Rose is SPECIAL!” “Rose is NOT SPECIAL!” at all hours of the day, move into the house next to us).
Meanwhile, I’m holding my breath to find out whether Rose is in episodes 12 and 13. While I can get behind Rose showing up in the Doctor-Lite episode and never interacting with the Doctor as a way of showing the audience that Rose has moved on with her life, I really don’t like the idea of her in the season finale. There are so many issues there, it’d be like School Reunion x10, and while I love School Reunion, you’ve got to admit, the plot kind of sucked a bit since School Reunion was all about the issues and how could it not be? An episode being about a relationship is fine for an average episode, but not for a season finale. A season finale is when the plot has to be brilliant as well. Basically, I don’t have enough faith in RTD to believe it wouldn’t be painfully awful to every non Ten/Rose shipper. Not to mention, we haven’t had enough time to really miss Rose yet.
Besides, the one thing we know for definite about the season finale is that it’s Catherine Tate’s last episode. If any companion is going to get the spotlight, it should be Donna.

Mostly because I'm with you in terms of it just being a bad storyline. And yeah, considering it's going to be Donna's last episode, CT definitely deserves the spotlight.
Having said that, based on set reports (and pics) over at the formerly known as OG Forum, it looks like the Steven Moffat episode (which should be eps 9 and 10) may be very very Donna-heavy. Which is kind of cool. There's some seriously WEIRD shit going down there which is excellent!

Besides, if they do make an appearance, I think it would be a cameo thing at the end of episode 13 and leading up to the Christmas ep which wouldn’t require much time on set.

Date: 2008-01-22 02:16 pm (UTC)So...since you're my current Doctor Who guru ;) for some odd reason last night, I was reading Four/Romana fic. And then Ten/Romana. Romana sounds awesome in fic, which means hopefully she's awesome on the show. Do you know if it's worth it to track down old Who episodes for the sake of watching Romana?

Date: 2008-01-22 02:52 pm (UTC)Jack + Sarah Jane = Why did that never occur to me before? That would AWESOME, in the full sense of it invoking some SERIOUS awe.
I actually, now that you have mentioned it, wonder at how there's basically no Jack/Sarah Jane fic out there. At least, not that I've stumbled across...

Date: 2008-01-22 05:55 pm (UTC)Romana is quite awesome in the show, since she's smarter than the Doctor and ends up playing the straight-man scientist to Four's buffoonish brilliance a lot (Tom Baker had gone off the rails at this point). And City of Death is certainly worth watching. It's a comedic story written by a pre-Hitchhikers Douglas Adams (under a pseudonym), involves the theft of the Mona Lisa and lots of the Doctor and Romana running around Paris (since they filmed it there)and even has a cameo by John Cleese. And many would argue it's the best serial ever (I don't think so, but it is one of the best).

Date: 2008-01-22 09:27 pm (UTC)maybe I can talk to him while he's pissed out of his head.I love Donna so I don't mind her having more focus. I do hope our numbers grow -- I really think people are being stupid. Just because she's a certain way on her own comedy show doesn't mean she'll be that way in 13 episodes of a science fiction programme. I just saw her (briefly) in the 2005 Bleak House and gee, not a funny voice or annoying character in sight. I say give her a chance!
I hope Lis was misleading too -- I really would love to see more SJS and miss the kids' show already. Then again, she's been one of my fave companions since 1978 so I am a bit biased! :)
