When I was a kid, I wanted to be the female equivalent of Indiana Jones when I grew up. I loved those movies so much. Even The Temple of Doom. Actually, Temple was my favourite of the three when I was seven. It occurred to me yesterday that what with me being in love with academia at the moment, I’m kind of part way there. Indiana Jones was an academic - I’m just missing the globe trotting, grave robbing and the whip. Not to mention awesomeness and Nazis. Okay, so I’m not like Indiana Jones at all, but a girl can wish she fulfilled her childhood dreams, right?

Anyway, getting to my point, I cannot find myself getting all that excited about the new Indiana Jones movies. Even with object-of-many-a girl-crush Cate Blanchett in it. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because Harrison Ford is now old and can’t seem to be bothered with the whole acting lack beyond the paycheque and nobody want to see their idols like that. Maybe it’s because there’s so much potential for it to disappoint. And there’s so much positive hype (and you all know my ability to jump on the positive hype bandwagons) but it’s not happening for me.

I'll go and see it no matter what, but I really want to be excited about it and I’m not. Seven year old me would be so ashamed of myself.

Although I do have a whole bunch of movies I really want to watch: Son of Rambow, Mama Mia and The Dark Knight (Is it true that Cillian Murphy is in it? Because if he is Best. Cast. Ever.)

Ahh, I went to see Dan in Real Life and saw the huge poster for Indiana Jones, and my friend and I were discussing how little we really cared anymore. It is a shame, because I did love the first three when I was younger too. Especially The Last Crusade because it is all escaping in the motorbike + sidecar, and Indy and his father, Sean Connery, bitching at each other. It was classic filmmaking right there. But the new one? I think because it is bound to be such a disappointment, or... it can't really escape that label for me. Even if it is awesome, my brain is still telling me that it shouldn't exist, because when things are fine, and good, then they should leave well alone.

I can't wait to see Mamma Mia. I am a musical geek.

And YES to the Cillian Murphy thing. I'm not as to what capacity he is back... he's not top billed, he's about 9th (but then again, when you've got a cast including Bale, Oldman, Freeman, Ledger, etc, he's bound to be a little way down). I think it is probably more a nod back to the first film, but I freaking LOVED Murphy as the Scarecrow. He was seriously fantastic. He plays a benign psychopath so well (see Red Eye, average film, but he was great). But basically The Dark Knight = Best. Cast. Ever. Anyway.

Good, it's not just me that doesn't care then. The original trilogy was perfect. I don't understand just why they had to revisit them (other than money, of course).

I'd heard nothing about CM in The Dark Knight until I saw his name on IMDb. But he was IMHO, the best thing about Batman Begins. I'd never seen him in anything else before, and there he was - with those cheekbones and the glasses - and guh. I rented 28 days later as soon as was possible.

But yes, even without him, the cast is brilliant. And I'm so glad they replaced the weakest link from the first movie, Katie Holmes, with Maggie Gyllenhaal, whom I adore. And I'm going through a Michael Caine phase at the moment.

Yea, Cillian is great. Batman Begins did wonders for him and now he makes lots of fab movies. And yes, gorgeous cheekbones. Apparently Sunshine is excellent although I haven't seen it to confirm.

Maggie Gyllenhaal looks great in the trailers, so I look forward to see her in TDK. And Aaron Eckhart is in the new film, so that makes me happy also. Michael Caine is wonderful no matter what way you shake it. Although apparently, I read somewhere, that he had a scene with Ledger, and Ledger was so good and scary that Caine forgot his lines completely. EEE, I can't wait :D

Sunshine is brilliant. It's got a flawed final act, but it still has to be my top three films of last year (I would rate it higher, but last year did produce The Lives of Others, which possibly the greatest movie I have ever seen).

Aaron Eckhart makes me happy as well. Oh, all this talk had me wanting to go rent Batman Begins again. You can never watch that movie too many times. Is it the 24th July yet?

Sunshine is totally on my list of things to watch, as is The Lives of Others. Sebastian Koch is fantastic. I really enjoyed his performance in Black Book.

The new Dark Knight HD trailer is due out on Sunday (probably Monday for us). The bootleg looked fantastic, but seeing it in HD will be something else. Ledger gives me chills...! And 24th of July feels so FAR away, especially when it is being released in the US on the 18th. Why no world release date Warner Bros?

Sebastian Koch is fantastic, but it is Ulrich Muhe that really owns Lives. He's just brilliant (and it's so sad since he died last year).

I despise waiting for movies. I know New Zealand's been a bit spoiled the past few years with world releases, but I don't get why they would stop. Less temptation for bootleg copies to make it onto the net that way.

Precisely. I mean, we got Ironman on time, why can't we have the Dark Knight like everyone else? I'm thankful we only have to wait 6 days, but that is Not The Point. I will be spending those six days stewing in jealousy :D

Yeah, I think Scarecrow's back. =D SO EXCITED. And terribly expectant. I will weep if there's anything less than an exquisite Joker (I've been kind of Joker-obsessed since...I was seven).

They've really hyped the Joker. I'm certain HL will be better than Jack Nicholson (who I thought was a bit crap in the role), and the make up alone is really freaky.
