Silence in the Library

The last two Moffat episodes, I've ended up with some kind of injury, entirely thanks to my skittish flatmate who screamed so loudly at the clockwork robot under the bed I spilled my coffee, and latched onto my arm so hard during Blink I ended up with bruises.
Keeping this in mind, I implemented an action plan:
1. No food or drink of any kind.
2. Another flatmate was between me and her on the couch.
There was success. Strangely enough, this episode wasn't quite a scary as I thought it would be. Still scary though.
I can't really say much about it. I feel you really have to see the second part of it before you can get a good grasp of the plot. The element were bloody creepy though, particularly the data ghosts.
And *shudders* the shadows eating the guy alive in the spacesuit. And then Donna's face. Woah.
Something has made me very cranky and that was that Donna had barely anything to do. I know Moffat's always been far more interested in his original characters than the Companion, but come on, we've barely got any Donna left and she wasn't in the promo bit for next week.
*Sulks*
Has Alex Kingston signed on for series five? Or signed something? Because I do like her character, and I love the idea of the Doctor running into someone after they've had their story but before he's experienced it. But if she's just going to show up for two episodes and then disappear forever, then I think it's a waste. And I have the feeling that's going to be the case. I'm getting just a little tired of the one-episode heartstring pulling wonders. We had one just two episodes ago in the form of Jenny. It's a new series convention that's getting overused. One a series, please.
Anyway, it was really really good. I'm possibly just mentioning my nitpicks rather than sqeeing because I'm really tired right now. I can't wait to see what happens next week, particularly with the little girl and her doctor.

Date: 2008-06-01 09:08 am (UTC)But the whole scene where the girl's neural ghost was talking after she'd died really struck me so I'm biased I think.
Donna also got to kick a door in and save Ten's scrawny butt. He needs to stop relying on that damn screwdriver so much.
But yes other than that she just sort of hung around and acted pretty. Give her more to do! She is resourceful! She can do lots of stuff!
I'm intruigued about River Song - I want to know who the *hell* she is - but otherwise I wasn't too impressed by her character. *seems to be the only one in fandom who wasn't bowled over, shrugs*

I do want to know more about River Song as well. Alex Kingston is great, but she hasn't made that much of an impression as it is. I suppose it's difficult conveying who she is since she's trying to keep it a big secret. Next week I suspect will be fantastic.

Date: 2008-06-01 04:11 pm (UTC)I don't know what's up with River Song but clearly Moffat has a long term plan in mind and I know he just loves fucked up romantic relationships. I am hoping that this means David Tennant is definitely going to be in S5. (I had known months ago that Moffat was in as show runner and that if he was, Tennant would sign on for another season after the Gap Year. But I won't believe it until it's announced officially)

Date: 2008-06-01 08:05 pm (UTC)And DigitalSpy has in it's weekly spoiler post mentions that Catherine Tate's performance will blow doubters into the stratosphere, so I'm starting to feel much better about Donna's plot for next week. They probably are trying not to spoil that she lives (I suppose some people watching out there could think Donna's going to be replaced by River or something).

Date: 2008-06-01 08:22 pm (UTC)I don't think Moffat will give us onscreen snogging/shagging, but it's very possible we'll get some off screen fodder. We already have what with picnics on Asgarde (I think that's what she said) and a few other things already.
I don't know anything about CT's performance - I've just seen set report photos and heard things about location shoots which are pretty intriguing. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess. Also, we saw Donna in the mid-season trailer with Rose and doing other stuff so if she were dead and gone, it would be a very very odd rest-of-series. However the following episode ("Midnight") will be mostly Donna-lite because CT was off shooting "Turn Left" while DT was doing "Midnight".
I wouldn't mind seeing River in the future -- I love Alex Kingston and like the character so far (although I freely admit that I am biased and would probably like any presumable long term love interest for the Doctor whose name is not "Rose". It also helps that she's 45, not 19).
