Journey's End Trailer Stuff
Jun. 30th, 2008 03:10 pmSo there's this TV show, Doctor Who. You may have heard me mention it…
I have a feeling I'm going to spend the next week screaming at my laptop "Donna can't be Romana/the Rani/Susan, she's something NEW!" only to most likely be proven wrong or some such.
The trailer had very little new material. What was new related to either Davros or Donna.
Apparently Davros wants to destroy reality. Nice one Davros. Talking about cutting off ones nose to spite ones face. But he does get evil overlord points for planning to do it with a Death Star.

Use the force, Luk-…errr…Doctor!
But is this bit that breaks my heart:

Oh, Donna. She's alone. I know that for dramas she will probably have her face whatever it is/do whatever it is she has to do alone, but Donna's more likely to freak out and decide she's useless when she's alone, such as in The Poison Sky when she hides in the TARDIS and later in Turn Left in the circle for the first time. That latter scene is heartbreaking, particularly since Catherine Tate sold that terror just so incredibly well.

This last picture worries me. If the TARDIS console opens up and Donna becomes Bad Wolf version 2.0 I'm going to throw things. Donna's far too awesome to have a character arc recycled from Rose's. On the other hand, maybe Donna's TARDIS flying lessons will come in handy. She, now that's something I would love to see: the reverse of PotW. The TARDIS emerges and instead of a sparky gold deity, we get Donna Noble, petrified, uncertain and surprised she's still in one piece.
Also, no sacrificing herself to save Rose so Rose and the Doctor can be together forever. Ten/Rose just killed one half of the DoctorDonna, it's not having the other half. Yes, I was highly amused when the grand long-awaited reunion ended up killing Ten. In perfect world he'd regenerate into Jim Broadbent and try to pick things up with Rose from there. I'd be laughing my arse off for days.
(Sorry Rose fans. I was subjected to how Rose is the greatest companion of all time from my brother last night, leading to my grumpy attitude towards Rose and Ten/Rose today. I'm sure I'll be back to my usual Rose tolerant self shortly).

Date: 2008-06-30 03:39 am (UTC)I'm with you on all of that. I am evil. Besides, Russell said "all great romances are enchanced by someone getting shot in the back by a Dalek". I concur. Especially when it's 10/Rose. *shudders* Then again, if anyone ought to live happily ever with the Doctor, IMHO, it should be Sarah Jane and Luke. Hmph!

Date: 2008-06-30 07:40 am (UTC)I feel Martha has got her happy ending as well. I wish we actually got to see her and Tom together to drive this home, but I think her ending works. Sarah for me has her happy ending too, with the kids and Alan. If Sarah was going to get her happy ending with the Doctor, I would want it to be with Four.

Date: 2008-06-30 08:19 am (UTC)Sarah seems to be satisfied with her place in life. I would love to see some actual Sarah/Alan interaction on SJA but it's not likely to happen, especially now that Maria and Alan are apparently leaving the show after the first two episodes (hopefully not permanently, but it seems like Yasmin Paige has to study for exams etc. so there's going to be a new Indian family moving in next door on Bannerman Road. :-/)
I do wish that Sarah had gotten to see Four again, but obviously that didn't happen. I just love Lis and think she has great chemistry with David Tennant so have no problems with a May/December romance there (of course it would be 60 yr old Sarah and 900 year old Ten!).

Date: 2008-06-30 05:17 am (UTC)Was he just gushing? Or was he being insulting about others in relation? 'Cause people feeling the need to be bratty about their tastes puts me into that "there are no words" realm of pissed off.

Date: 2008-06-30 07:32 am (UTC)My brother doesn't gush. If he likes something he inflicts this opinion upon you and adding in that he is always right, however wrong he may be, this makes listening to him rather unpleasant. Unless you happen to agree with him, since he can be quite funny.

Date: 2008-06-30 12:18 pm (UTC)Oh noes! My sister's very much not a Rose fan on the grounds that she wouldn't want to spend a night out with her cause she'd start crying over her boyfriend or something, and called me to mock the Meadow Run.
