Writing Journals
Sep. 18th, 2006 06:28 pmI've changed my layout again. Considering how often I change my desktop background it’s a wonder that I don’t change it more often.
grrliz made it and I fell in love. In doing this I had a thought and now I’m giving serious consideration to making myself a writing journal. That way I don’t have to worry whether the layout is readable since I can just use the default page with black text on white. I could also organise my fics much better with more specific tags.
I know I will have to repost a lot of the stuff I’ve got here, though really it’d just be a matter of cutting and pasting. I know there are some of you on my f-list writing journals (I can think of
le_parapluie and
jadeddiva off the top of my head) are there any hidden cons I should know about? Anyone else given it consideration and decided against it?

Date: 2006-09-18 02:47 pm (UTC)As for writing journals, I think they're quite handy. Easy to organize, and if anyone ever asks, "Where can I read your fics?" you simply provide them with a link. Easy as pie.
I used to have a link to my fic journal in the header of my personal lj, which I've since taken down as increasingly, RL people are reading my journal and commenting. In fact, one such person friended my fic journal, and quite clearly knows that I write fanfic now, so....ergh? I dislike the idea of making a fic journal friends-only, as to me, it should be something open to the public, easy-access for anyone who might want to read something I've written. Providing a link in your lj (in either the sidebar or header) is sort of an open invitation, I reckon. Not providing one, however, makes it rather difficult for anyone to find your achive. So possibly that's a con?
Still a useful thing to have, as I can post everything there---regardless of length or format, and without any sort of policies to adhere to.
(As an added thought to the privacy/journal being found issue, I suppose that readers don't necessarily have to look hard for my fic. I provide a link everytime I post something new that takes said reader directly to the fic journal. Sigh.)
TMI, I'd imagine...

Then again I don’t think anyone in my real life knows I have a LJ and I’ve made it pretty hard to figure out it’s me if they go looking for me unless I friend them, so I don’t think I will have that problem. It is a problem I had not considered though, instead of me having a LJ which happens to have fanfic in it, there will now be a hub of it to point at, virtually my own website. Hmmm, devil and the deep blue sea.
And, since it be for me International Talk Like a Pirate Day, yo ho ho and a bottle or rum to ya.
