I’ve been watching The Hand of Fear and I don't think it's possible to watch it an not want to do a possessed!Sarah Jane impersonation. I've discovered that school Doctor Who is awesome, cheesy old special effects and all. I eventually gave up on the library and ran out to the video store and now have Genesis of the Daleks and Pyramids of Mars, which I haven’t seen yet, but I have completely fallen for Tom Baker’s doctor. Not quite sure how on earth Ten has managed to usurp him in the favourite Doctor stakes. Though DT is much better looking, I’ll give him that. But if we were going only on looks, surely Eight would be ranked very highly. Not that I’ve actually seen the TV Movie. But I have seen Withnail and I and Hornblower.

I hope I don't bother people by being so multi-fandomish at the moment. I know a lot of you friended me through Harry Potter. It's just that with the lack of fresh canon Harry Potter's kind of boring me a bit at the moment.

In other exciting news, they’ve finally released a trailer for Sunshine which is (other than AWE and OotP of course) the movie I’m waiting for this year. Danny Boyle and Cillian Murphy doing space opera with added bonus Cliff Curtis - I am so there.

Both Genesis of the Daleks and Pyramids of Mars are pretty much considered among the classic Who serials (which is probably why the library had them, of course :D). I remember watching them on TV, dammit. Tom Baker is my favourite Doctor too, although I probably haven't seen enough of the first two to be sure ... I really must get a DVD player. And a decent sized TV.

Apparently Pyramids on Mars was released because it won some poll about what fans wanted released on DVD, so it’s very popular. Tom Baker's the third Doctor I've seen, I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Eldrad MUST live! Ah, buzz words of my youth. You're right, you can't watch it without running around saying that afterwards. She also says something similar in the Jon Pertwee episode "Planet of the Spiders'. "Queen of the Spiders MUST live!"

The Paul McGann film isn't great but it's enjoyable. I liked it more than a lot of DW fans at the time but the production values are pretty incredible, esp. compared to the cardboard sets and bubble wrap monsters from the BBC at the time. I know it's available on R2 (I got mine on Amazon.co.uk) and you can acquire it elsewhere too. I love McGann.

Ooh, I really want to see Planet of the Spiders. Spiders scare me witless so of course an episode with gigantic spiders sounds brilliant. That and Seeds of Doom (killer plants and Antarctica, I'm in horror movie heaven) really need to get a DVD release.

I’ve seen the Paul McGann film around and intend to watch it once I’ve worked my way through the Tom Baker ones I’ve got. An American version of Doctor Who has the potential to be really entertaining, for possibly the wrong reasons.

"Planet of the Spiders" is fun. I'm not that huge a Pertwee fan but it's one of the better ones. It's been about 20 yrs since I've seen anything from that era so I might like it more now. I really ought to get some of those series episodes on dvd. I like spiders generally -- the f/x in that era of shows is pretty lame so most people shouldn't be too frightened. Definitely NOT on the level of the Empress of Racknoss!

"Seeds of Doom" is a good one!

I've got the R2 version of the film. It's so stupid that it's a US production but they never released it here. Hooray for Multi-region dvd players. It wasn't a bad version -- they kept to canon (mostly) while trying to make things more approachable to an American audience (mainly by setting it in the States). I know a lot of hardcore DW fans hate it but I think it's got its place. I certainly like it more than most of the Sixth Doctor's tenure!

Oh yes, Tom Baker will always be the definitive Doctor for me, no matter how much I may like Nine and Ten. There's a scene in Invasion of Time (I think) where he's running around in a flowy white pirate shirt that still occasionally figures in my Doctor fantasies ;)
