Is it the 31st Yet?
Mar. 30th, 2007 04:22 pmHaving now seen quite a bit of the footage on the internet for the Season Three of Doctor Who lately I have decided that I adore Martha. All pessimistic thoughts have completely dissipated. She's going to kick all kinds of alien arse. Bring on Smith and Jones, I can't wait.
Talking about companions, lately I've been a bit sorry neither Reinette or Donna ended up travelling with the Doctor. Reinette because having recently watched The Invasion, I've got a hankering for a historical companion. Imagine all the fun that could have been had with an 18th century French courtesan wandering around space and time. The inevitable scene where Rose tries to get Reinette to dress in a way that would make her blend in at Powell Estate would be comedy gold.
And I'm not sure how well received in fandom Donna generally is, but I really liked her. Sure she was screechy at the start, but once she started to grasp the big picture she became really endearing. She's obviously smarter than most characters were giving her credit for, she's brave, funny and on a couple of occasions in the Runaway Bride she takes charge. And Donna's character arc is kind of build in with the character. The Doctor could continue to show her the big picture, what he universe is really like and Donna would eventually find her cause, probably on some planet somewhere far from earth, claim it for herself and stay behind and fight for it while the Doctor moves on. No "we're going to be together forever" business. Just two reasonably mature people travelling around time and space.
Squee!!!! (Spoilers)
