“So Meddow, what did you do in your early lecture this morning?”
“I nicked an idea from
artic_fox and wrote a list”
Things I want (or don’t want) to see in At World’s End
Davy Jones to be revealed to not be the first Davy Jones. Because it’s Davy, as in David, as in the name of the Welsh patron saint and a very common Welsh name, Jones, as in another very common Welsh name. Davy Jones is Welsh, not Scottish. I'm bitter that they turned a character who in legend is so obviously Welsh and made him Scottish. Welsh characters can do things other than talk about putting women’s ears in buckets and be cringe-worthy additions to the Whoniverse.
Governor Swann gets a happy ending. Because Governor Swann is the sweetest character in the movie and all he has gotten so far is unhappy endings. He lost out his first choice for son-in-law (come on, he and Norrington were so cute all through CotBP, he so obviously loves him like a son), and in DMC he loses his only child, only to have to sacrifice his integrity to save her. Dude really deserves something good to happen to him, or at least a hug.
Bootstrap Bill dies in the first minute and never comes back. (What? His character is the black hole of interest and fun in these movies).
Keith Richard’s cameo gets cut. I have a really bad feeling about it. I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to be of a Bruce Willis in Ocean’s 12 level of bad, and I really don’t want that to happen.
Will doesn’t suddenly become a brilliant and talented captain of a ship. The other captains in canon – Barbossa, Norrington, Jack – have all been implied at least to have had spent their lives at sea. Will’s a blacksmith by training, so it really wouldn’t ring true that he could just be just a good a naval strategist and commander as the others. Elizabeth on the other hand I can make an exception for, since she has been obsessed with pirates her whole life, but hasn’t had the opportunities. She’s probably got the theory down and is way more charismatic than Will.
Elizabeth becomes Governess of Tortuga - I had this idea a couple on months ago and I’m going to push it as much as I can before canon inevitably stomps on my dream. Because it allows her to not only hang with pirates, but command pirates, put her education, cunning and natural leadership abilities to use, be a nice tribute to her father and would act as a compromise between full pirate and lady.
Barbossa lives. And not only does he live, hesteals commandeers the Black Pearl and the movie ends with Jack going off too chase after him. Because it would give Jack a purpose and be nicely circular with the beginning of CotBP
Sao Feng should be awesome, but in small doses. I really don’t want him to steal screen time from established characters I like.
Becket should be exactly as he was in DMC. He’s my favourite villain. And no redemption for him, I want to see him get an appropriate demise.
Tia Dalma should get a scene with Norrington. Cause Tia Dalma/Norrington – totally hot. At least in my mind.
And finally, Norrington. Really, I’d just be happy with plenty of screen time for him.
Though ideally, he’ll get to show off naval commander skills that would make Nelson envious, get into some kind of swordfight (and live), lose the mustard (and with it any ties to the East India Trading Company), beat the shit out of Becket (not with actual fists, a sword or words would do), remain somewhat dark, angsty and a little bit bitter towards Jack and Will (so as to retain the snark at all times), have at least one adorable scene with Elizabeth, kiss Elizabeth (if not to win her heart, then to get over her), have an ending in which he gets a ship and he gets laid, or it is implied he’s gotten laid at some point in the movie, or is going to get laid in the near future.
“But Meddow, isn’t that a dumb idea to spend your lecture not listening?”
“Dude, when did I ever claim not to be an idiot?”

Your list is much more comprehensive than mine, but I agree with most of it. I really don't like Bootstrap as a character, and I don't know how they are going to handle this film having so many "baddies" (Davy, Beckett, and also to some degree Sao Feng, and the threat of Barbossa doing something bad).
I love your ideas for Norrington. I would love to see all of that. And... him, not dead. I would love a Norribeth scene, a kiss (to win her, or get over her, either one), even if it is never going to happen (and with realism on my side, it probably ain't gunna).
But we will see soon!
(Don't you LOVE that New Zealand is on the best side of the international date line for once? - except my area doesn't have any midnight showings, and even if it did, I have work, but I'm going 8pm Thursday.)

Date: 2007-05-22 10:52 am (UTC)I have so much love for the international date line right now, that and the fact my first lecture on Thursday is at 4pm so I’m going to see it first thing Thursday morning (not sure of the exact time just yet because Hoyts will not update their website with session times).
