Wow wow wow wow wow. Doctor Who owns my soul!

First of all and important bit of caplocked squee: THEY USED VOODOO CHILD BY THE ROGUE TRADERS! Every single time I’ve listened to that song for the past goodness-knows how many months since I found out the title of this episode was "The Sound of Drums" (which is quite a few times because it’s on my playlist for work) I’ve thought of Doctor Who. And there it was!

Speaking of the music, I loved it. The drums which have been carried over since the last episode and the reappearance of the UNIT theme from the Christmas Invasion and the Doomsday guitars.

It is official by the way, the Master pwns the Daleks. They certainly do not have the imagination to torture the Doctor and his friends the way the Master has done and are not half as entertaining. And they certainly have no wonderful Lady Macbeth like Mrs. Saxon. She is a brilliant partner in domination, part stunned deer in headlights, part psychopath.

Gallifrey! With it’s burnt orange sky and cityscapes! I’m so glad we got to see it and that we got to see some Time Lords and their ridiculous robes (Anyone else thing those robot things are the last of the Time Lords, that would certainly break the Doctor’s heart. The only thing worse for him would be if they were minds of the alt!universe and one of them was Rose).

Little Master was so cute. I don’t think the Doctor ran when he saw the power of time and space. I think something else happened and I think we’re going to find out what in the next episode.

The poor Doctor - torn between the last of his species and the survival of the planet he loves so dearly and now old and frail. It’s the most riveting season finale we’ve had so far.

Martha’s really come into her own. I can almost forgive the inconsistent writing all season for her yelling at the Doctor like she did. I think the rose-tinted glasses have finally been removed for her and she sees the Doctor in a new light, and I suspect the Doctor will be removing his Rose-tinted glasses (yeah, I’m going for the prize for lamest play on words ever) by the end of the two-parter. I do hope this brings about a new dynamic between the two of them, one completely different from Doctor and admiring companion, but one of Doctor and weary and wise companion.

Poor Jack for being in exactly the same position as Martha, big crush but completely ignored. Though really, I felt sorrier for him with his one line in reference to it that I have for Martha all season. I’m so glad they had reference to his Torchwood role. Heck, I’m so glad for all the references, we had the Aliens of London crash landing, the collapse of Harriet Jones’ government (please bring her back RTD, please, please, please), the battle of Canary Wharf and the Runaway Bride star. I’m not sure if it was, but it the whole plotline seemed to have been planned from The Christmas Invasion and now the pieces are fitting together, it’s so satisfying for the viewer, probably why this show owns my soul.

It’s a bit sad that those Sarah Jane cameo rumour did not turn out to be true, though considering what happened to the other investigative journalist, maybe it’s a good thing because we know Sarah Jane has to live. She has her own show so she’ll survive. As it is, there are only two characters that can not die in this two parter because they are the lead characters in their own shows, and its all the more tense because of all the fates that hang in the balance, including the Master. I hope the Master lives, I really do. I want him to be revisited in a few years time.

And in the promo: Was that not-alt!Mrs. Moore?

But I’m on holiday. My first proper holiday in over five years and I have to miss The Last of the Time Lords. It’s not fair, I had it all timed perfectly, after Doctor Who and before Harry Potter. Bloody Eurovision!

“Dalek-Human Hybrids”
“Gas-Mask Zombies”
“Judoon on the Moon”
“Real living Werewolves!”
“Real living Witches!”

"The second-to-last of the Time Lords!”
“The! Lock Ness! Monster!”
"Really?”
"Nah, not really.”
