I was looking through a picspam I did ages ago for this and noticed

That hasn’t been in series four so far has it?

There’s a wristwatch in the background that suggests contemporary Earth, but the blue suit was worn in the Sontaran two-parter and I’m very sure that’s not from Partners in Crime.

While I’m not particularly knowledgeable in 1920s wristwatches, it couldn’t be from The Unicorn and the Wasp since he wears a white shirt in that episode underneath the brown suit. It’s part of the cinema trailer which was released before the Silence in the Library and the season finale were filmed.

But wasn’t Partners in Crime filmed back to back with Turn Left, which is how they got the Billie cameo in the first place? Does this mean the Doctor is in fact in Turn Left?

Hmm, no, not seen thus far! Good point. Things are still not 100% on the "Doctor lite" episode are they? I don't know if it was ever fully established beyond the tabloid papers whether it was a "Doctor lite" or a completely non-Doctor episode?

Not much at all has been fully established besides Donna and Rose being in it and a few set reports on scenes, none of which contained DT. Rumours have been that the Doctor didn't appear at all, or that his appearance is really minor, but that looks like quite a dramatic scene.

I've seen some other speculation on this shot in the past week, and Turn Left seems to be the most likely episode. I thought the Doctor wasn't in the episode at all, but I heard that months ago, and rumors on the internet are known to be wrong occasionally. It definitely looks like something importants going on though, not like the the four things and a lizard cameo in Blink.

Exactly. He's obviously got a bit more to do that merely show up and be the Doctor like he did in Blink - Turn Left is starting to seem rather Utopia-esq.

Could it be from "Midnight"? Do we know anything about that episode, except that Rusty took over the writing duties after being unhappy with Moran's draft(s) and David Troughton is in it?

ETA: Are the Moff's episodes set on contemporary Earth?

"Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" are set in a library on another planet, iirc. However, based on set reports/photos there are a lot of surreal sequences that seem to take place on contemporary Earth -- with a twist. I don't think it's from either of them based on the shot from the trailer which looks like it might tie in to episode 12 or 13.

...how should I feel about RTD taking writing duties over from the guy who wrote Fires?

I don't think it was Moran, I think it was Tom McRae (?), the guy who wrote TIP/TSP, and the script was apparently pulled because it was too similar to something else in the season - so it may yet show up reworked in series five.

You're right. It was Tom McRae who was pulled from "Midnight," not Moran--except McRae wrote "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel," not TIP/TSP, which were Matt Jones. I hate RotC and TAoS quite a lot, so I'm really not too upset that McRae is gone (at least for a while).

I guess I thought it was Moran, because I still have a great deal of residual hate for him for "Sleeper" and didn't love TFoP as much as everyone else seems to have. *shrugs*

I'd still take Davies over Jones, McRae, or Moran. Then again, I didn't hate LotTL as much as everyone else seems to have. *shrugs again*

I think we know it's set on an alien leisure planet and that it might be Donna-lite (it as filmed around the same time as Turn Left as well.

Nope, it hasn't been seen yet. That's from the big trailer that we saw pre-Parters in Crime and I think Donna may be with him in the shot (it's been a while since I saw it). And 10 looks very very scared as the camera pulls in (or is it out?). I have a strong feeling it's from ep 12 or 13 -- and that what's scaring the Doctor is something that starts with a D.

Oops -- and no, "Partners in Crime" was not shot with "Turn Left". "Turn Left" wasn't shot until late in the bloc -- sometimes around last November-ish. That's when Billie's presence was known and why people speculated she was 'only' in "Turn Left". They clearly did pick up shots out on the street at the time to keep the speculation down to a minimum and to surprise us. Most people who followed set reports on DWF knew about Billie within hours of the intrepid reporters posts (and then subsequently so did the tabloids etc.) but it was all tied with the outdoor night shoot on the streets of Cardiff which tied in with "Turn Left" and then later #12 and "Journey's End". That's why the whole 'we can't tell you how many episodes she'll appear in' comment from the press reports was so baffling.

That makes a lot more sense. I've gotten confused somewhere since it seemed to me that PIC, Turn Left, TDD and Midnight were all filmed at once, and that can't be right.

Nope. As far as I know, PiC was shot much earlier.

Okay the shooting blocks for S4 were as follows (as per Wiki)

1. Voyage of the Damned
2. Planet of the Ood/Unicorn & the Wasp
3. Fires of Pompeii
4. Partners in Crime
5. Sontaran Stratagem/Poisoned Sky
6. Doctor's Daughter/Midnight
7. Turn Left
8. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
9. #12/Journey's End

So you were close -- TDD and Midnight were shot at the same time (ish) and then Turn Left was right after. But obviously there were pickup shots for earlier episodes at the same time as Turn Left. It may have been to accomodate Billie's schedule and to keep the chatter down for Rose's return. Esp when it would've been bad if she had been seen coming and going from sets a lot -- it definitely would've taken a lot away from Catherine's premiere if all people were talking about was Rose, Rose, Rose (it's bad enough some people ARE and keep forgetting that there's more to the show than 12 seconds of Rose Tyler each week). Plus from a business/organizational standpoint, it makes more sense because you can just utilize the actor's time!

I'm wondering if we're going to see the same shots of Rose--from PiC and TPS--again in "Turn Left," but from Rose's POV.

So, maybe they weren't "pickuped" so much as "sliced in"?

[/speculating]

I suspect we will. Or at least the whole situation in context and what led up to Rose's being there and what happened after Rose left. It's too much of a mystery to just ignore, right?

When you shoot footage of stuff that has to be added to a production that's mostly done much earlier, it's called "pick ups". I would assume Rusty had always planned on those scenes to be there. It just was a good surprise.

It's from the cinema trailer though, which was on YouTube before eps 12 & 13 were filmed. Although it really does look like it could be the villain reveal or the reveal of something big - I originally thought it was going to be from The Doctor's Daughter.

I knew that after I wrote all that. *headdesk* It's obviously SOMETHING from prior to the last two episodes then. We know "Turn Left" IS Doctor-Lite but not how much, of course. So it might be from that (maybe it's how he's taken out/disposed of/whatever is speculated to happen to him) or maybe at the end of "Midnight" if that leads into "Turn Left" i.e. the way "Poisoned Sky" lead into "TDD" (or perhaps from "Turn Left" leading into #12 once the Doctor shows up again assuming he does).

Oh, and it was Tom McRae's script that was moved to S5 (or so it's been rumoured) due to similarities to something else that was shot. What's odd is that Tom was talking about his script a year ago February which makes me wonder how all that happened without Rusty noticing until it was too late? I'm not too worried about McCrae's career though -- I've noticed his name on other stuff recently like Miss Marple and Lewis so he's definitely a busy boy! :)

Wasn't he always gonna be in bits of Turn Left? They put that of him looking horrified like that next to a clip of Donna against the Ood cage and made me think they were supposed to be in the same episode. He's wearing the right clothes for it. I wonder if it was cut or if it's showing up later...I hope it wasn't cut, I like that shot.

Well, I was assuming if he was in Turn Left, it would be in a Blink like role, in which he doesn't actually get to do anything particularly important.

It does look like the Ood cage scene. Doesn't make sense they would cut it though, since that episode is the shortest of the season so far.
